I grew up on the outskirts of Sioux City and graduated from a high school of about 1,400 students. I am an outdoors person. I knew I wanted to do the fishery side of animal ecology.
I assisted in a wadeable stream project, studying 42 sites in three streams. We studied the types of fish living in these water bodies. I began the project on June 15, after the spring rains stopped and it was safe to sample. The research continued through July and August. We studied Bear creek, Kegley Branch and LD creek. This summer was probably the best summer I've ever had.
I'd like to get some experience doing research and work on larger rivers and lakes, now that I have researched Iowa's interior water system. I'd like to do water sampling and in the future work as a game warden or a biologist.
