Iowa State had the perfect program for me. I started out in biology and went into animal ecology in the natural resource ecology and management department. I visited the campus my senior year and toured the whole place and fell in love with it.
On the Tanzania trip this summer we climbed Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano. We started at midnight and by the time we got to the top it was 6:30 a.m. I have a fear of heights and couldn't see how high we were on the way up, so going down was a little painful but now I can say I climbed a mountain.
I heard about the study abroad and I wanted to try it. I knew it was possible but I was surprised how easy it was to get into the programs and get this experience. My goal is to go to three countries before I graduate from Iowa State University. I've gone to Australia and Africa and now I want to travel to Antartica.
I know employers want graduates who have studied abroad because it's a growing experience.
I'm a transfer student from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa and I'm so glad I came to Iowa State. After I graduate I want to do something with wildlife or work in a preserve or as a zookeeper. I want to be out in the world doing stuff and not sit behind a desk.
