The College of Agriculture and the Iowa Agriculture and Home Economics Experiment Station support a variety of programs to encourage diversity. Summer Minority Research Internship High school and college students are matched with faculty
mentors to conduct research in their areas of interest
during the summer internship program. Students receive a
stipend, room and board and round trip travel to Iowa State
University. Applications are sent to various high schools
and to 1890, 1994, and Hispanic serving land-grant
institutions and put on the Internet in November and are due
Feb. 1. Graduate Assistantships Departments can match their quarter-time assistantships for newly recruited minority with the Graduate Research Assistantship Match program through the College of Agriculture and Experiment Station. Up to two years for master's degree candidates and three years for doctorate candidates are available. The graduate assistantship permits the student to enroll for a maximum of 12 semester credits and to qualify for full resident tuition rates. This program has supported more than 50 graduate students studying in 15 departments since it began in 1993. Faculty Research Exchange Visits This competitive grants program each semester provides faculty to and from 1890, 1994 and Hispanic-serving land-grant institutions to strengthen research linkages with ISU faculty. The visits promote undergraduate and graduate recruitment, identify collaborative research areas, prepare joint proposals and encourage collaborative research grants. Each year from three to five exchange visits are available. Contact |
