College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Scholarships

Undergraduate

Scholarships for currently enrolled undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

Application Period: Dec 26 through Feb 15

Scholarships are awarded in varying amounts to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and whose primary major is in CALS (full-time student carrying 12 or more credits). Applications must be submitted on-line between December 26 and February 15. Applications will not be accepted after February 15.

Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Your application will be considered if you satisfy these eligibility requirements:
  1. Enrollment in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
  2. A GPA of 2.5 or above.
  3. Rank in the upper half of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
  4. Show professional promise and leadership potential.

Scholarship winners are selected by the College Scholarships and Awards Committee based on specific criteria listed for each scholarship, plus academic achievement, professional promise and leadership. Some of the scholarships awarded require students to show financial need.

If a scholarship requires additional information, such as an essay or statement, it must be submitted in printed form to the scholarship committee, Room 139A Curtiss Hall by February 15.

Financial need guidelines:

  1. The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, needs to be filed each year by students to qualify for institutional and federal financial aid. It is important to remember to file the FAFSA each year between January 1 and March 1 in order to be considered for priority financial aid. If you choose not to file FAFSA, you may fill out the application to be considered for the scholarships that do not require financial need.
  2. FAFSA forms are available online at the Student Financial Aid website or go directly to www.fafsa.ed.gov.

NOTE: Although the official FAFSA deadline is March 1, we encourage filing before March 1 to avoid technical problems that may occur if too many people are filing at the last minute.

You may fill out the scholarship application before filing for FAFSA. The two processes are separate. We will obtain your FAFSA score from the Office of Student Financial Aid the second week of March.

Scholarship recipients are notified in late March. Awards will be distributed in equal installments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's university account. If a scholarship recipient changes majors and transfers out of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the scholarship will terminate at the beginning of the following semester.

All students majoring in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences are considered for scholarships, with priority going to students who have the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as their primary academic home and are making appropriate progress toward graduation.

Departmental scholarships also are available. Contact the department office for information. Click here for a listing of departmental scholarship website links.

For questions, contact the office of the associate dean for academic programs at 515-294-6614.
