4-H Scholarships

The Iowa 4-H Foundation has several scholarships available to entering freshman, many of which are for students entering Iowa State University. Scholarships for undergraduate students are also available. The Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarship listings and application forms are available from any Iowa county extension office, from the State 4-H Office at Iowa State University, or on the web at www.extension.iastate.edu/4H/grants.html

AAI Winton Etchen Scholarship

ADM-FFA

ADM (Archer Daniels Midland Company) is partering with the National FFA Organization to sponsor scholarships for high school seniors and to students enrolled in two and four-year colleges and universities. AFA Leaders Conference

The Agriculture Future of America (AFA) organization is dedicated to supporting outstanding college students in preparing for careers. Each fall, AFA organizes an excellent Leader's Conference. The ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will provide scholarships (i.e., cover the registration costs) to sponsor 5 delegates who will be enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences next year.

To apply for one of these scholarships please submit a one-page essay (to 130 Curtiss by February 15) describing leadership activities you have been involved with to date (or will be engaged in this academic year), what you hope to gain from attending the conference, a brief description of your career goals, and a listing of any past involvement with AFA.

First-time attendees as well as returning AFA delegates may apply for this scholarship from the College of Ag & Life Sciences. Returning AFA delegates may also apply for a scholarship provided by AFA, please contact AFA directly for details.

American Floral Endowment

The American Floral Endowment (AFE) is a non-profit organization that focuses on funding scientific floriculture research and scholarships/internships for students wanting to enter the floriculture industry. AFE has many scholarships available to students.

Annie's Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship

Annie's Homegrown will award $50,000 in scholarship funds to students studying sustainable and organic agriculture.

Annie's Homegrown Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to full time undergraduate and graduate students beginning or returning to an accredited 2 or 4 year technical or college program or graduate school in the U.S. Students must be focusing on classes in sustainable agriculture and have at least one more year before completing their degree.

Borlaug Scholar Award and Internship Description

Location: Cresco, Iowa

Selection: One Award
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences major
Sophomore, Junior or Senior standing

Duties: In support of the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation and the historic Borlaug Farm the intern will be engaged in education and curriculum development, communications, and landscape design. In support of the Cresco Chamber of Commerce the intern will assist in preparations for the Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest as well as engaging in related community affairs. The intern is expected to live in the town of Cresco during the 8 week internship.

Duration: 8 weeks during Summer 2010. The awardee will work for 4 weeks on projects in support of the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation and 4 weeks on projects in support of the Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest. By March 1 the intern will select the dates of the internship and communicate them to all parties in Cresco and ISU.

Value: Total value of the Borlaug Scholar Award/Internship is potentially $5,200, making it one of the most prestigious awards offered to undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The award/internship is calculated as follows:
- $3,200 based on working for $10/hr x 8 hours/day x 5 days/week x 8 weeks
- $2,000 scholarship applied to ISU tuition (half in spring semester 2010, half in fall semester 2010)

Charles H. and Inez M. Callahan Memorial Graduate Awards

Charles H. and Inez M. Callahan Memorial Graduate Awards $2000.

Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Animal Science departmental Poster Session. Awards will be distributed in equal installments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's university account.

Colvin Scholarship

The Colvin Scholarship Foundation and Certified Angus Beef LLC are seeking applicants for its scholarships. All qualified college juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply.

Developed in 1999 as Louis M. "Mick" Colvin retired as Executive Director, the scholarship recognizes his role in making dreams a reality and inspiring others to be their best. The First Citizens National Bank Opportunity Scholarship

$1000 scholarship for ISU students in Business, Agriculture, or Human Sciences. The First Citizens National Bank Opportunity Scholarship is for students planning to participate in an international study experience in the upcoming spring, summer, or fall. Two awards will be offered this year. Eligible students must be enrolled in Human Sciences, Business or Agriculture at Iowa State University with a minimum GPS of 2.5, and must be from one of the following counties in Iowa: Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Floyd, Hancock, Mitchell, or Wright. David J. Henry All-University Leadership and Academic Excellence Award
One award is available to a full-time undergraduate with senior classification; applicants must apply their junior year of study. Applicants should demonstrate potential for an outstanding professional career and typify the leadership and academic qualities of David J. Henry. Selection is based on leadership and academic achievement. The amount of the award is $2000.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) give over 4,000 scholarships each year to students going to four-year universities, community college, and graduate school.

For college bound students of all levels who are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. Students must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA, (3.3 GPA for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program) and plan to be enrolled full-time in the Fall. All majors are encouraged to apply.

There are close to 150 HSF scholarship programs available to you, including the Gates Millennium Scholars Program. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $15,000. Apply online at www.hsf.net

Iowa Pork Foundation Graduate Fellowship

Thanks to the generosity of the Iowa Pork Foundation, the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is pleased to announce a graduate fellowship in the amount of $2500. This fellowship is designed to provide support to a student studying at the MS or PhD level in the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who is conducting thesis or dissertation research related to the pork industry.

Applicants must be:

1) majoring in the areas of Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Food Science, Microbiology, Agricultural Engineering or other related disciplines that contribute to the pork industry,
2) US citizens,
3) able to demonstrate financial need.

Completed applications will include:

1) a cover letter stating:
a. the research topic being pursued
b. the planned use of the funds (to attend a professional meeting, assist with publication costs, etc.)
c. an indication of what support the student is already receiving
2) a copy of the applicant's vita
3) an endorsement by the applicant's major professor.

The winner will be selected and notified during July. The award will be made during the Fall semester by the Iowa Pork Foundation. Please note that the fellowship awardee must be present at the Iowa Pork Congress Auction & Scholarship reception in late January, to be held at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. After receiving the fellowship the awardee is required to submit to the Iowa Pork Foundation a report to include information on the awardee's future career plans and plans for utilizing the Iowa Pork Foundation fellowship.

Richard L. Jensen Memorial $1,000 Scholarship

The Richard L. Jensen Memorial $1,000 Scholarship is awarded each year to a third year student majoring in crop production or an allied subject such as entomology, plant pathology, plant physiology, etc. Further information and application materials are available on the NAICC's web site: http://www.naicc.org/Applications/Scholarship.cfm

Bob Jolly Entrepreneurship Scholarship

The scholarship, initiated by Roger and Connie Underwood in recognition of Dr. Bob Jolly's dedications, unselfish leadership and stewardship of the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Program, provides an award to a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences student who demonstrates a commitment to and aptitude for entrepreneurship.

The $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a recipient at a junior or senior standing and pursuing a major offered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at time of application. The recipient will demonstrate an interest/aptitude for entrepreneurship, as determined by the director. Examples include but are not limited to: participation in the programs of the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative; experience starting a business or non-profit organization; internship with an entrepreneurial business; relevant course work; etc.

NCGA Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship

The National Corn Growers Association and BASF Corporation have teamed up to provide a new scholarship for ag students.

The NCGA Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program awards five (5) $1,000 one-year scholarships to deserving, qualified second-year undergraduate students (or later) or graduate students enrolled in an agriculture, agribusiness, or ag vocation program at a 2-year or 4-year program of study at an accredited junior college, college or university.

Applicants must be members or dependents of a member of the National Corn Growers Association. Employees and the families of employees of any division of BASF or their subsidiaries are not eligible for the scholarship.

John and Mary Pappajohn Scholarship

The John and Mary Pappajohn Scholarship Fund was created through a generous gift from John and Mary Pappajohn. Since 2000, $10,000 in scholarship money has been made available to Iowa State University students demonstrating an interest in entrepreneurship. At $1,000 each, these honors are targeted to students of Junior, Senior, or Graduate status who have started or who intend to establish their own businesses or are participating in the entrepreneurship program.

Soil and Water Conservation Society

The Iowa Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society is offering three Memorial Scholarships each valued up to $500. These scholarships provide financial aid to persons needing economic assistance and who are interested in furthering their education and careers in a soil conservation/natural resource related field through course work, special study or seminars. SOY Scholarship

The American Soybean Association (ASA) is offering a $5,000 scholarship to an eligible high school senior who plans to declare agriculture as a degree area of study at the university of their choice. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA and must be the child or grandchild of a currect member of ASA and meet the other requirements as described on their website. The Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement (IFAA) is making available the following scholarships to Iowa State University students. Program for Women in Science and Engineering

PWSE offers scholarships to undergraduate women enrolled in science or engineering curricula at Iowa State. Students apply during January each year for scholarships. Students who are high school seniors may apply for the "First Year Scholarships" and currently enrolled undergraduate students or transfer students are eligible to apply for the other scholarships. Application deadline is a postmarked date of February 1st .
