Annie's Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship

Annie's Homegrown will award $50,000 in scholarship funds to students studying sustainable and organic agriculture.

Annie's Homegrown Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to full time undergraduate and graduate students beginning or returning to an accredited 2 or 4 year technical or college program or graduate school in the U.S. Students must be focusing on classes in sustainable agriculture and have at least one more year before completing their degree.

Borlaug - Thomson Internship

Location: Cresco, Iowa

Selection: One Award
For an undergraduate student with their primary major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Sophomore, Junior or Senior standing at the time of application. Must be enrolled during the spring semester prior to the internship and the fall semester following the internship.

Description: In support of the Norman Borlaug Heritage Foundation and the historic Borlaug Farms the intern will be engaged in education and curriculum development, communications, landscape design/management and other related tasks. Further information on the Foundation is available at: http://www.normanborlaug.org/ The intern will also assist the ISU Extension office with various tasks including the county fair and preparations for the Norman Borlaug Harvest Fest. The intern is expected to live in the town of Cresco during the 8 - 10 week internship. The intern is expected to complete a report within one month of the completion of the internship. The intern is also expected to participate in the INSPIRE DAY at the Borlaug Farm in September.

Duration: 8 weeks (minimum) to 10 weeks (maximum) during the summer. By March 1 the intern will select the dates of the summer internship and communicate them to all parties in Cresco and ISU.

Value: Total value of the Borlaug-Thomson Internship is potentially $7,000, making it one of the most prestigious awards offered to undergraduate students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The award/internship is calculated as follows:
-$ 3,200 based on working for $10/hr x 8 hours/day x 5 days/week x 8 weeks
-$ 3,000 scholarship applied to ISU tuition (half in spring semester, half in fall semester)
-up to $ 800 reimbursed for actual housing costs in Cresco.

Sponsor: This program was developed and initially sponsored by the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the ISU Agricultural Endowment (ISUAE). The ISUAE was founded in 1937 to help Iowa farm families survive and thrive. Throughout its history, the ISUAE has worked to keep families on the farm and to ensure the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences plays an important role in supporting the agriculture industry in Iowa. In 2010, the program was supported by four different donors. Beginning in 2011, the program was fully supported by Fran and Jack Thomson, a generous family from Cresco, Iowa.

Charles H. and Inez M. Callahan Memorial Graduate Awards

Charles H. and Inez M. Callahan Memorial Graduate Awards $2000.

Submit applications to: Iowa State University, Dept. of Animal Science, 1221 Kildee Hall, Ames, IA 50011-3150. Application deadline is February 15. Applications will not be accepted after this date.

Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Animal Science departmental Poster Session. Awards will be distributed in equal installments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's university account.

Cargill Global Scholarship

In addition to an annual scholarship award of $2,500 for up to three years, the Cargill Global Scholars Program provides leadership development opportunities through seminars, networking events, and a one-on-one mentoring program with executives from Cargill. Ten scholarships will be awarded.

Roy J. Carver Scholarship

Iowa State University
The Roy J. Carver Scholarship Program is funded by the Carver Charitable Trust in memory of Roy J. Carver, who achieved success through his own initiative and hard work. Scholarships are available to students with great potential and promise, who work hard to make ends meet, or are faced with debilitating circumstances in their lives.

To be eligible for the Roy J. Carver scholarship, a student must meet thefollowing criteria:
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Graduate of an accredited Iowa high school or have been a resident of the state of Iowa for at least 5 consecutive years immediately prior to application
  • Junior classification fall semester of the award
  • Full-time enrollment (12 credits or more)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80
  • Demonstrate financial need on basis of a Free Application for FederalStudent Aid (FAFSA) filed prior to March 1
  • Evidence of unusual social and/or other barriers to attending college full time

Colvin Scholarship

The Colvin Scholarship Foundation and Certified Angus Beef LLC are seeking applicants for its scholarships. All qualified college juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply.

Developed in 1999 as Louis M. "Mick" Colvin retired as Executive Director, the scholarship recognizes his role in making dreams a reality and inspiring others to be their best. The First Citizens National Bank Opportunity Scholarship

$1000 scholarship for ISU students in Business, Agriculture, or Human Sciences. The First Citizens National Bank Opportunity Scholarship is for students planning to participate in an international study experience in the upcoming spring, summer, or fall. Two awards will be offered this year. Eligible students must be enrolled in Human Sciences, Business or Agriculture at Iowa State University with a minimum GPS of 2.5, and must be from one of the following counties in Iowa: Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Floyd, Hancock, Mitchell, or Wright. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) give over 4,000 scholarships each year to students going to four-year universities, community college, and graduate school.

For college bound students of all levels who are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. Students must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA, (3.3 GPA for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program) and plan to be enrolled full-time in the Fall. All majors are encouraged to apply.

There are close to 150 HSF scholarship programs available to you, including the Gates Millennium Scholars Program. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $15,000. Apply online at www.hsf.net

Hixson, Christina Opportunity Award

The Christina Hixson Opportunity Award is a grant of $10,000 ($2,500 per year for four years) to be used at Iowa State University. One hundred high school seniors from across Iowa will receive the award each year. Ideally, recipients will represent each county in the state. Scholarship Opportunities for International Students

Iowa Pork Foundation Graduate Fellowship

Thanks to the generosity of the Iowa Pork Foundation, the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is pleased to announce a graduate fellowship in the amount of $2500. This fellowship is designed to provide support to students studying at the MS or PhD level in the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who are conducting thesis or dissertation research related to the pork industry.

Applicants must be:

1) majoring in the areas of Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Food Science, Microbiology, Agricultural Engineering or other related disciplines that contribute to the pork industry,
2) able to demonstrate initiative to specialize in an area that contributes to the swine industry upon graduation, and
3) US citizens.

Interested applicants are required to submit:
  1. Cover letter stating:
    1. current and previous swine experience and training

    2. planned use of the funds

    3. what support the student is already receiving

    4. applicant's career plan

  2. A copy of the applicant's resume

  3. An endorsement by the applicant's faculty mentor or major professor.

Applicants will be selected by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the name of the finalist will be forwarded to the Iowa Pork Foundation by April 30th of each year.

The winner will be notified during the summer. The award will be made during the Fall semester by the Iowa Pork Foundation. Please note that the fellowship awardee must be present at the Iowa Pork Congress Kickoff Reception & Auction the following January, to be held in Des Moines. After receiving the fellowship the awardee is required to submit to the Iowa Pork Foundation a report to include information on the awardee's future career plans and plans for utilizing the Iowa Pork Foundation fellowship.

Iowa Pork Producers Association Scholarships

The Iowa Pork Producers Association, the Iowa Pork Foundation and the Iowa Purebred Swine Council are offering scholarships to those students who are planning to or are currently majoring in an agriculture field with an interest in the pork industry. For information, see the IPPA website.

Iowa Soybean Association

The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) is looking for qualified candidates to apply for its agriculture scholarships. ISA will award up to $15,000 this year through the ISA Ag Scholarship Program; it will be presented in as many as ten $1,500 scholarships to capable high school seniors pursuing a degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related field. ISU Community Service Scholarship

The selection committee will choose recipients based on community service performed in the City of Ames, or Story County, Iowa area while enrolled at ISU. Applicants must submit an essay describing the community service they have performed and how this service has influenced their life, as well as the affect on those individuals or parties they have served. One letter of reference is required, specifically attesting to the student's community service activities.

Richard L. Jensen Memorial $1,000 Scholarship

Bob Jolly Entrepreneurship Scholarship

The scholarship, initiated by Roger and Connie Underwood in recognition of Dr. Bob Jolly's dedications, unselfish leadership and stewardship of the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Program, provides an award to a College of Agriculture and Life Sciences student who demonstrates a commitment to and aptitude for entrepreneurship.

The $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a recipient at a junior or senior standing and pursuing a major offered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at time of application. The recipient will demonstrate an interest/aptitude for entrepreneurship, as determined by the director. Examples include but are not limited to: participation in the programs of the Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative; experience starting a business or non-profit organization; internship with an entrepreneurial business; relevant course work; etc.

Mike Samuelson Memorial Scholarship

Mike Samuelson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a central Iowa
graduating senior from the Ogden area attending Iowa State University with a

Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (MSR&PC)

The Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (MSR&PC) Scholarship for college juniors and seniors from Minnesota who are pursuing an education in soybean agronomy, soil science, soybean genetics, large animal vet or animal nutrition. MSR&PC annually awards up to four (4) awards of $2,000. Awards are not renewable and are for undergraduate study only. NCGA Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship

The National Corn Growers Association and BASF Corporation have teamed up to provide a new scholarship for ag students.

The NCGA Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program awards five (5) $1,000 one-year scholarships to deserving, qualified second-year undergraduate students (or later) or graduate students enrolled in an agriculture, agribusiness, or ag vocation program at a 2-year or 4-year program of study at an accredited junior college, college or university.

Applicants must be members or dependents of a member of the National Corn Growers Association. Employees and the families of employees of any division of BASF or their subsidiaries are not eligible for the scholarship.

National Poultry & Food Distributors Association (NPFDA)

Offering $1500 scholarships to Juniors and Seniors studying Agriculture, Agribusiness, Poultry Science, Animal Science, Food Science and related degrees. The students must be full time and studying at a US College or University. See www.npfda.org for application materials.

John and Mary Pappajohn Scholarship

The John and Mary Pappajohn Scholarship Fund was created through a generous gift from John and Mary Pappajohn. Since 2000, $10,000 in scholarship money has been made available to Iowa State University students demonstrating an interest in entrepreneurship. At $1,000 each, these honors are targeted to students of Junior, Senior, or Graduate status who have started or who intend to establish their own businesses or are participating in the entrepreneurship program.

William J. Paris Scholarship

Louisa County residents with plans to study toward careers in natural resources or conservation are urged to apply for the William J. Paris Conservation Scholarship. Applications for this annual $500 scholarship will be taken through February 15.

Pork Industry Scholarships

for college juniors and seniors who plan to pursue a career in swine production management or a related field, or will be seeking to attend graduate school and major in a discipline with an emphasis on swine. The RNM Foundation offers one scholarship each year in the amount of $2500. Deadline: May 31. The Royal Scholarship Program

The Royal Scholarship is a program designed to provide an opportunity for outstanding college students to advocate the food and fiber industry, leadership and the American Royal. Applicants will be selected as members of the Royal Scholars. The Royal Scholars will travel to Kansas City, Missouri, for training and participation in the 111th American Royal, media events, civic organization meetings, school visits, and a host of other activities.

In recognition of the outstanding achievements of the Royal Scholars and their continuing advocacy of the food and fiber industry, the American Royal Association will award a $2,500 scholarship to each student selected to be a member of the Royal Scholars.

Soil and Water Conservation Society

The Iowa Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society is offering three Memorial Scholarships each valued up to $500. These scholarships provide financial aid to persons needing economic assistance and who are interested in furthering their education and careers in a soil conservation/natural resource related field through course work, special study or seminars. USDA's Outlook Forum Student Diversity Program is a sponsorship opportunity for agencies, corporations, and organizations.
