The Iowa 4-H Foundation has several scholarships available to entering freshman, many of which are for students entering Iowa State University. Scholarships for undergraduate students are also available. The Quercus Landscape 4-H Scholarship
A new scholarship for incoming and current College of Agriculture Students for 2006, the Quercus Landscape 4-H Scholarship ($500) is to be awarded to an Iowa 4-H member majoring in horticulture or landscape design at any Iowa or Minnesota college (includes community colleges). The scholarship is available to incoming freshmen or any undergraduate level student. ADM-FFA
ADM (Archer Daniels Midland Company) is partering with the National FFA Organization to sponsor scholarships for high school seniors and to students enrolled in two and four-year colleges and universities. AFA Leaders Conference
The Agriculture Future of America (AFA) organization is dedicated to identifying, encouraging and supporting outstanding college men and women in preparing for careers in the agriculture and food industry. Each fall, AFA organizes an excellent Leader's Conference. Those ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences students who have participated have been extremely enthusiastic about the quality of the event. The conference is open to Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. The ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will provide scholarships (i.e., cover the registration costs) to sponsor 5 delegates who will be enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences next year. To apply for one of these 5 scholarships please submit a 1 page essay describing leadership activities you have been involved with to date (or will be engaged in the next academic year), what you hope to gain from attending the conference, a brief description of your career goals, and a listing of any past involvement with AFA. If you wish to be considered, please submit the online College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Currently Enrolled scholarship application, and also bring a hard copy of your essay to the Office of the Associate Dean, Academic Programs, 130 Curtiss Hall by February 15. Winners will be notified early April. Both first-time attendees as well as returning AFA delegates may apply for this scholarship from the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Returning AFA delegates may also apply for a scholarship provided by AFA to help cover the cost of their registration fee. Please contact AFA directly for details on this option.


Annie's Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship
Annie’s Homegrown will award $50,000 in scholarship funds to students studying sustainable and organic agriculture. Up for grabs this year are: * Two (2) $10,000 Undergraduate Scholarships * One (1) $10,000 Graduate Scholarship * Four (4) $2,500 Undergraduate Scholarships * Four (4) $2,500 Graduate Scholarships Annie's Homegrown Sustainable Agriculture Scholarship Program is open to full time undergraduate and graduate students beginning or returning to an accredited 2 or 4 year technical or college program or graduate school in the U.S. Students must be focusing on classes in sustainable agriculture and have at least one more year before completing their degree. Annie's accepts applications postmarked between June 1st and September 30th, 2007. Final decisions will be made by January, 2008, and funds will be dispersed on or around February 15, 2008. Charles H. and Inez M. Callahan Memorial Graduate Awards
Charles H. and Inez M. Callahan Memorial Graduate Awards $2000 Students who receive these awards shall meet or exceed the following qualifications: 1. Shall be students who are pursuing a graduate degree in poultry science or agriculture. 2. Preference shall be given to students who are residents of Story County; however, in no student from Story County applies or qualifies for the award, a student who is a graduate of a high school in the State of Iowa may qualify. 3. Preference shall be given to students majoring in poultry science; however, if no such student applies or qualifies, a student from another curriculum in agriculture may qualify. 4. The student recipients must qualify for financial aid as determined by the Financial Aid Office of the University. Submit applications to: Iowa State University, Dept. of Animal Science, 1221 Kildee Hall, Ames, IA 50011-3150. Applications must consist of: a) A description of achievements relative to the award; b) A transcript of academic performance; c) A summary or vita showing professional activities; d) A list of publications; e) An endorsement/nomination letter from the student's major professor. Application deadline is February 15, 2007. Applications will not be accepted after this date. Financial Need Guidelines: 1. Submit a Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 15, 2007, so that your financial need may be confirmed prior to selection. (Do not send your FAFSA form to the Dept. of Animal Science.) 2. List Iowa State University on your FAFSA form. 3. FAFSA forms are available online at the Iowa State University, Student Financial Aid website. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Animal Science departmental Poster Session in April 2007. Awards will be distributed in equal installments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's university account.

The First Citizens National Bank Opportunity Scholarship
$1000 scholarship for ISU students in Business, Agriculture, or Human Sciences. The First Citizens National Bank Opportunity Scholarship is for students planning to participate in an international study experience in the upcoming spring, summer, or fall. Two awards will be offered this year. David J. Henry All-University Leadership and Academic Excellence Award One award is available to a full-time undergraduate with senior classification; applicants must apply their junior year of study. Applicants should demonstrate potential for an outstanding professional career and typify the leadership and academic qualities of David J. Henry. Iowa Pork Foundation Graduate Fellowship
Iowa Pork Foundation Graduate Fellowship Thanks to the generosity of the Iowa Pork Foundation, the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is pleased to announce a graduate fellowship in the amount of $2500. This fellowship is designed to provide support to a student studying at the MS or PhD level in the ISU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences who is conducting thesis or dissertation research related to the pork industry. Applicants must be: 1) majoring in the areas of Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Food Science, Microbiology, Agricultural Engineering or other related disciplines that contribute to the pork industry, 2) US citizens, 3) able to demonstrate financial need. Completed applications will include: 1) a cover letter stating: a. the research topic being pursued b. the planned use of the funds (to attend a professional meeting, assist with publication costs, etc.) c. an indication of what support the student is already receiving 2) a copy of the applicant’s vita 3) an endorsement by the applicant’s major professor. After receiving the fellowship the awardee is required to submit to the Iowa Pork Foundation a report to include information on the awardee’s future career plans and plans for utilizing the Iowa Pork Foundation fellowship.


Iowa Grape and Wine Scholarship
IOWA GRAPE AND WINE Scholarship Applications due November 1st for 2007-2008 academic year DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today encouraged eligible undergraduate or graduate students to apply for a new scholarship from the Grape and Wine Development Commission. The scholarship is a state-funded grant that will provide scholarships to enhance grape and wine quality in Iowa by increasing accessibility to education. “Educating students on Iowa’s wine enterprise is critical to the continued growth of the industry,” said Northey. “These scholarships are available to students taking viticulture or enology courses from an accredited Iowa university or community college.” Eligible recipients must be an Iowa resident, be associated with an Iowa vineyard or winery, and complete accredited coursework with a grade of 70% (“C”) or higher. A beneficiary must be a volunteer, part-time employee, full time employee, owner, or have other significant affiliation with an Iowa vineyard or winery at the time of application. Applications for the 2007-2008 academic year are due on Thursday, November 1, 2007, and will be reviewed by the Application Review Committee. An individual may receive one scholarship per academic year. “The growing wine industry is one of the many areas of Iowa agriculture that has been growing rapidly in recent years,” Northey said. “This program will help those interested in viticulture continue their education so the can help this industry continue to grow in across the state.” Application materials can be downloaded from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship website at www.agriculture.state.ia.us/grapeAndWine.htm. ISU Scholarships
The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs awards 12 scholarships annually to students who meet the criteria described below. A committee of faculty and staff select the recipients of each scholarship. Applicants should review the Tips for Effective Scholarship Applications for suggestions. Minority Student Scholarships:

The following scholarships are available for the 2008-2009 academic year. Click on the scholarship name below to download the application for that scholarship. All application materials are due to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs (2350 Beardshear Hall) by noon on Friday, November 30, 2007. Awardees will be notified in early February, and scholarships will be applied for the 2008-2009 academic year bill ($2,000 award, divided between two semesters).

*Crazy Horse Scholarship: Applicants must be Native American students. First preference will be given to Native Americans from reservations.

*Donald Smith Scholarship: Applicants must be upperclass (sophomore/junior/senior) at the time the award is applied. Each applicant must be an African American student, studying in any technical field. This award is based on need and degree progress.

*Herta David Minority Student Scholarship: Applicants must be minority students who will be in their sophomore, junior or senior year at the time the award is applied. Each applicant must have a 2.50 grade point average at the time of application.

*Lawrence Shindel Scholarship: Applicants must be Native American, full-time students. Preference is given to individuals who will be Juniors or Seniors at the time the award is applied. Applicants must be members of a federally recognized tribe and have documentation of being ¼ or more Indian.


President's Leadership Initiative Awards:

The President’s Leadership Initiative Awards are one-year scholarships awarded to students on the basis of demonstrated leadership. Each applicant must submit a cover letter, leadership resume, an essay of 500 - 1,000 words, and 2 letters of recommendation (one of which must be from an Iowa State University faculty/staff member). All application materials are due to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs (2350 Beardshear Hall) by noon on Friday, November 30, 2007. Awardees will be notified in early February, and scholarships will be applied for the 2007-2008 academic year bill ($2,000 award, divided between two semesters).

*Charles F. Frederiksen Leadership Award: This award is open to an Iowa State University student residing in university housing who has served in a leadership role and demonstrated outstanding service to the university community. Recipients are selected on the basis of: contributions to on-campus student leadership; involvement in building community within university-owned housing; personal leadership ability; and scholarship.

*David W. and Ellen J. Raisbeck Leadership Award: The President’s Leadership Initiative Award committee has identified the following criteria for this award: the recipient of this award must be a junior (at the time the award is applied) who demonstrates financial need (as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid) and is a leader in the Greek Community.

*Gib and Nancy Stanek Leadership Award: The President’s Leadership Initiative Award committee has identified the following criteria for this award: the recipient of this award must be a sophomore (at the time the award is applied) who demonstrates leadership through community service.

*Junior Leadership Award: The President’s Leadership Initiative Award committee has identified the following criteria for this award: the recipient must be a junior (at the time the award is applied) who demonstrates a progression of leadership development (breadth, depth, and impact of past leadership activities) and potential for future leadership.

* Sandra and Lynn Davis Leadership Award: The President’s Leadership Initiative Award committee has identified the following criteria for this award: the recipient must be a senior (at the time the award is applied) who demonstrates leadership in any capacity on campus.

* Tze-Yen Teoh Sophomore Leadership Scholarship: The Tze-Yen Teoh Sophomore Leadership Award recognizes the leadership of an ISU sophomore within the university community. The President’s Leadership Initiative Award committee has identified the following criteria for this award: the recipient must be a sophomore (at the time the award is applied) who promotes the qualities of leadership and community service among Iowa State students and who reflects the compassionate, joyous, and thoughtful life of service that marked the life of Tze-Yen.

* Carnot H. Thomas and Lillian M. Thomas Leadership Award: This award, funded by Carnot H. Thomas in honor of his mother and father, is open to any Iowa State University undergraduate in good standing. The recipient must still be an undergraduate student at the time the award is applied (Fall 2007). Recipients are selected on the basis of a combination of financial need, academic achievement, and professional potential.

* W. Robert Parks and Ellen Sorge Parks Senior Scholarship: The President’s Leadership Initiative Award committee has identified the following criteria for this award: the recipient must be a senior (at the time the award is applied) who demonstrates excellence in scholarship, leadership, university involvement, and community service – as well as the promise of continued involvement with Iowa State as an alumnus or alumna.


Richard L. Jensen Memorial $1,000 Scholarship
The Richard L. NCGA Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship
The National Corn Growers Association and BASF Corporation have teamed up to provide a new scholarship for ag students. The NCGA Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program awards five (5) $1,000 one-year scholarships to deserving, qualified second-year undergraduate students (or later) or graduate students enrolled in an agriculture, agribusiness, or ag vocation program at a 2-year or 4-year program of study at an accredited junior college, college or university. Applicants must be members or dependents of a member of the National Corn Growers Association. Employees and the families of employees of any division of BASF or their subsidiaries are not eligible for the scholarship. John and Mary Pappajohn Scholarship
The John and Mary Pappajohn Scholarship Fund was created through a generous gift from John and Mary Pappajohn. Since 2000, $10,000 in scholarship money has been made available to Iowa State University students demonstrating an interest in entrepreneurship. SOY Scholarship
The American Soybean Association (ASA) is offering a $5,000 scholarship to an eligible high school senior who plans to declare agriculture as a degree area of study at the university of their choice. The applicant must have a strong background in 4-H and/or FFA and demonstrate leadership while being involved in activities. Preference will be given to applicant who shows financial need.

One $1,500 Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica Scholarship

The applicant must presently be a second or third year student in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. The applicant must have a strong background in 4-H and/or FFA projects and a strong emphasis in swine while at ISU. Preference will be given to applicant who shows a strong desire to remain active in the livestock industry after graduation.

One $1,500 Iowa Purebred Swine Council Scholarship

The applicant must presently be an upper classman in Animal Science or related curriculum at Iowa State University. The applicant must have a strong background in 4-H and/or FFA swine projects and a strong emphasis in swine while at ISU. Preference will be given to applicant who shows a strong desire to remain active in the purebred swine industry after graduation.

One $1,000 Earl Mobley Memorial Beef Breeding Scholarship

The applicant must presently be a junior in Animal Science or related curriculum at Iowa State University. The applicant must have a strong background in 4-H and/or FFA beef breeding projects and a strong emphasis in beef cattle while at ISU. Preference in selection will be given to applicants that have demonstrated leadership while being involved in activities in 4-H and/or FFA and at ISU. Additional criteria considered will be livestock judging activities and a desire to remain active in the livestock industry after graduation.

One $1,000 Iowa Pork Producers Scholarship

The applicant must presently be an upper classman in Animal Science or related curriculum at Iowa State University. The applicant must have a strong background in 4-H and/or FFA swine projects and a strong emphasis in swine while at ISU. Preference will be given to applicant who shows a strong desire to remain active in the swine industry after graduation.

One $1,000 Lauren Christian Memorial Swine Scholarship

The applicant must presently be an upper classman in Animal Science or related curriculum at Iowa State University. The applicant must have a strong background in 4-H and/or FFA swine projects and a strong emphasis in swine while at ISU. Preference will be given to applicant who shows a strong desire to remain active in the swine industry after graduation.



Winton Etchen Scholarship
$1,000 scholarship to an ISU freshman agriculture student who is a resident of Iowa. Sponsored by the Agribusiness Association of Iowa (AAI). Application deadline is April 25, 2008. For more information call the AAI Foundation at 1-800-383-1682.


Program for Women in Science and Engineering
PWSE offers scholarships to undergraduate women enrolled in science or engineering curricula at Iowa State. Students apply during January each year for scholarships. Students who are high school seniors may apply for the First Year Scholarships and currently enrolled undergraduate students or transfer students are eligible to apply for the other scholarships.
