FarmHouse Fraternity at Iowa State Named Chapter of Distinction

April 13th, 2011

AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State University chapter of FarmHouse Fraternity has received the North American Interfraternity Conference Chapter Award of Distinction.

The award was presented at the conference’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. on April 10. The Iowa State chapter was one of four fraternities to receive the award in 2011 from the trade association representing 75 international and national fraternities.

The Chapter Award of Distinction recognizes chapters for excellence in compliance with national standards, efforts to educate about a values-based fraternity experience and healthy relationships with their international organizations. Among its activities, ISU’s FarmHouse Fraternity organizes annual fundraisers to benefit the Iowa Children’s Cancer Connection.

For nearly 85 years, FarmHouse has been a perennial source for student leadership on the Iowa State University campus. Members are not required to have an agricultural background, but many are enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In 2010 the fraternity received the Ruby Cup Trophy, honoring the top chapter at the organization’s Biannual Conclave.
