Gary Twedt Honored at July 29 All Horticulture Field DayAugust 3rd, 2010
AMES, Iowa – Gary Twedt received the Distinguished Service to Iowa Horticulture Award at the second annual All Horticulture Field Day on July 29.
Twedt is the golf superintendent at the Ottumwa Country Club where he has worked for the past 23 years. He received the award for his work with Iowa horticulture and the Iowa State Horticultural Society. He graduated from Iowa State in 1977. The field day attracted more than 200 people. The day’s activities included demonstrations on research related to crabapples, vineyards, chainsaw safety, aquatic research, turf grass management, weed identification, computer applications and the use of high tunnels to increase fruit and vegetable production. The field day was held at the Horticulture Research Station near Gilbert. The research station is home to 85 research and demonstration projects and more than 130 faculty members use the farm for teaching, research and extension projects. Every year more than 15,000 people visit Iowa State’s Research and Demonstration Farms.
