Forestry Professor Honored by Arboriculture Society Chapter

February 26th, 2010

AMES, Iowa — Dick Schultz, professor of natural resource ecology and management, was presented the Presidents award Feb. 18 by the Midwestern Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture.

The President’s award recognizes an individual who has provided a significant impact in the life of the awarding chapter president. Chip Murrow, a former student of Schultz and an Iowa State forestry alumnus, presented the award as chapter president.

Schultz joined the Iowa State faculty in 1979. He previously taught at the University of Georgia. He earned all his degrees at Iowa State: a bachelor’s degree in forestry in 1965, master’s and doctorate degrees in forest biology in 1968 and 1970.

Schultz teaches forestry, soils and watershed management courses and conducts research in riparian ecology, management and restoration, especially in agricultural landscapes; hydrology and soils; and agroforestry.

The award presentation was part of the chapter’s conference held Feb. 17 to 19 in Columbia, Mo.
