AMES, Iowa — The first All-horticulture Field Day will be held Aug. 6 at Iowa State University’s Horticulture Research Station near Ames.

“ISU faculty and staff are proud of the work at the research station and are eager to show people the research and demonstration projects,” said Jeff Iles, chair of the Iowa State horticulture department.

This event will showcase research projects being conducted at the station in all areas of horticulture. Concurrent sessions will allow participants to learn more about specific areas of horticulture and to network with others in Iowa’s horticulture industry.

Special areas of interest will include vegetable production, including growing in high tunnels; apple, small fruit and grape production; lawn and turf management; urban tree development; landscape design and installation; organic horticulture; and farm pond and aquaculture management. The Midwest Grape and Wine Industry Institute will conduct a tasting of wine made from grapes grown in the station’s vineyards.

Registration is $20 for attendance and lunch by the Boone County Cattlemen. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Concurrent sessions begin at 9:00 am. The event concludes with lunch.

The station also will host its Demonstration Garden Field Day the same day at 6 p.m. It will feature vegetables known for preservation quality, unusual flowers and ornamental grasses. This event is free.

The station is located at 55519 170th St.; three miles north of Ames on Highway 69, then east on 170th Street one and a half miles.
