Awards Presented by ISU Agriculture Honor Society

May 12th, 2003

AMES, Iowa -- Awards were presented recently to Iowa State University College of Agriculture faculty members and others by the Iowa Chapter of the Honor Society of Agriculture, known as Gamma Sigma Delta.

Dennis Keenney received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture award, the highest award the society gives. Keeney is former director of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture.

Three Mission Awards were presented. The Research Award went to Max Rothschild, Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture. Steve Jungst, professor in natural resource ecology and management, received the Teaching Award. The Extension Award went to Beth Ellen Doran, livestock field specialist.

The honor society also recognized two undergraduates in the College of Agriculture. Seth Schroeder, Odebolt, Iowa, received the Sophomore Scholarship Award of Merit. Schroeder is majoring in ag business. Ely Grote, Bayard, Iowa, received the Senior Scholarship Award of Merit. Grote is majoring in agronomy.

New chapter officers were installed. They are Gail Nonnecke, horticulture, president; George Brant, animal science, vice-president; and William Edwards, economics, secretary-treasurer.
