Animal Science Professor Receives Dairy Industry AwardJuly 1st, 2003
Gene Freeman, Iowa State distinguished professor emeritus in animal science, received the Ralph Keeling Dairy Leadership Award for his service to the dairy industry of Iowa. The award was presented to Freeman by Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge on June 19.
Freeman is a Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture. He was nominated for the award by Doug Kenealy, professor-in-charge of dairy science at Iowa State. Established in 1967 in honor of Ralph Keeling, the award is presented annually to a leader in the Iowa dairy industry. The award recognizes individuals whose efforts have contributed to the advancement of Iowa's dairy industry. Freeman received his bachelor's and master's degrees from West Virginia University and his doctorate from Cornell University. His research interests include dairy cattle breeding, improving sire and cow evaluation, improving efficiency of milk production and factors that affect milk composition.
