Scofield Named Director of the Brenton CenterMarch 5th, 2007
AMES, Iowa — Gaylan Scofield has been named the director of the Brenton Center for Agricultural Instruction and Technology Transfer.
Scofield was appointed as interim director after Richard Carter retired in 2004. Scofield is an Iowa State alumus who earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in agricultural education. He had 13 years of experience in agribusiness management and five years as a high school agriculture teacher before joining the agricultural education and studies department in 1991. More than 600 students are enrolled in distance education classes delivered through the Brenton Center. The center also offers five master’s programs that cater to professionals who need scheduling flexibility to pursue a master’s degree. “In 1995 when the Brenton Center first opened distance education was a novel idea,” Scofield said. “Today it’s expected.” The $1.5 million facility was built with private funds and named in memory of W. Harold and Etta Brenton by family members who made the lead donation for the project. The Brentons were 1920 graduates of Iowa State.
