Research sponsored or conducted by the USDA is required to be documented in the Current Research Information System (CRIS) -- a unit of the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES). CRIS AD-416, AD-417, and AD-421 information is entered into the CRIS technical database which is available for searching online at http://cris.csrees.usda.gov.
When you search the CRIS database, you can access the AD-416 and AD-417 basic information and the AD-421 annual reports to find out what research is being done and who is conducting the research. Therefore, all Station projects require the AD-416, AD-417, and CSREES-2008 before projects are approved by the station director(s) and assigned a project number. Once a project is approved by CSREES, the AD-421 is submitted annually to report progress during the calendar year. The same form is used to submit a final (summary) report.
