Foreign Travel Grants
ISU Foreign travel grant applications are due September 6, 2002, in the College of Agriculture, 138 Curtiss Hall.

World Food Prize
The 2002 World Food Prize International Symposium, From the Middle East to the Middle West:  Managing Freshwater Shortages and Regional Water Security, will be held at the Des Moines Downtown Marriott Hotel, October 24-25, 2002.  The 2002 Laureate Ceremony honoring Dr. Pedro Sanchez will be held at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in Ames at 7:30 p.m., October 24, 2002.

The first annual Norman Borlaug Lecture, Feeding a World of Ten Billion People:  Our 21st Century Challenge, presented by 1970 Nobel Peace Price winner, Dr. Norman L. Borlaug, is scheduled for October 15, 2002, at 8:00 p.m. in the Sun Room, Memorial Union.

Ag Study Abroad Update
The Ag Study Abroad website has a new look and URL.  Check out www.agstudyabroad.iastate.edu for the latest information on all aspects of study abroad for the College of Agriculture.

Max Jimenez, an undergraduate student from EARTH University, is participating in an internship program organized by GAP during Fall, 2002.

Photo Contest for Returning Agriculture Study Abroad Students.   Agriculture Study Abroad is sponsoring a photo contest for all returning students on ag study abroad trips. Students can submit up to 3 photos for judging.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 photographers. Winning photos will be displayed in October.

Summer Travel Course Deadline October 1.  October 1 is the deadline for proposals for Summer, 2003 travel courses. Faculty who are interested in leading a group of students abroad should download the program approval application from www.studyabroad.iastate.edu/DownloadableForms/programApproval.DOC Contact Shelley Taylor, 4-5393, sztaylor@iastate.edu for assistance.

Money Available for Site Visits.  Faculty considering leading group study abroad programs can apply for funding for site visits in preparation of the group program. Site visit applications are due a month before the trip and can be downloaded from www.iastate.edu/~study-abroad/Faculty/Faculty.html

Exchange With Hohenheim University Active.  Alex Parrish, Business, and Rachel Christianson, Animal Science, have returned to ISU after spending a year and a semester, respectively, taking classes at Hohenheim University in Stuttgart, Germany.  Four new exchange students from Hohenheim are enrolled in the College of Agriculture this fall. Dirk Ansorge, Verena Haussler, Nadine Schulz and Kathrin Strohm, all students in agricultural studies, will take courses at ISU this semester.

Beginning Spanish Course
A Spanish short course sponsored by the College of Agriculture will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from October 1 - November 21.  For information, contact Eduarda Becerra, 4-3972, ebecerra@iastate.edu
