Peace Corp Logo     Peace Corps at ISU
The Peace Corps office at ISU is located in the Study Abroad Resource Center in room 255 of the Memorial Union.  The campus Peace Corps Representative, Rick Maiers, is available to give presentations on the opportunities in Peace Corps to campus organizations, in classrooms, and will meet with people individually.  The ISU Peace Corps office can be contacted at 294-9339 or pcrep@mail.adp.iastate.edu
Peace Corps Interviews will be held at ISU November 5-7, 2002.  Positions available in Africa, Europe and the Mediterranean, Central and East Asia, the Pacific, Inter-America and the Caribbean.  Contact the ISU Peace Corps office for further information.

New International Course

Study global issues with students and faculty at universities around the world - without leaving ISU!  Register for Global Seminar:  Environment and Sustainable Food Systems, an international forum for informed dialogue on global issues.  The course will be offered during the Spring, 2003 semester.  There is a $10 special course fee which covers the costs of the course materials that will be provided to you.  Learn more about this truly international course by visiting the Global Seminar website  www.globalseminar.org/index.htm  or contact Deb Muenchrath, 294-7232, mnchrath@iastate.edu

The Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program

The Congressional Hunger Center seeks applicants for the Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program, a 2-year initiative that begins with a 1-year field placement in countries throughout South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America.  Fellows receive a monthly stipend, health insurance, a housing subsidy, and transportation and travel funds.  At the end of their 2-year program, Fellows earn an end-of-service stipend.  This program runs from June, 2003-May, 2005 and targets only U.S. citizens.  Interested candidates can apply online from October 15, 2002-January 31, 2003 www.hungercenter.org/international

David L. Boren Graduate Fellowships are available through The National Security Education Program (NSEP).  NSEP welcomes applications from U.S. citizens enrolled in or applying to a graduate degree program in an accredited U.S. college or university located within the United States.  Awards are made for a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 academic semesters.  Visit www.aed.org/nsep or contact nsep@aed.org

ALO, in cooperation with USAID/Bangladesh, is issuing a call for applications for 3 higher education partnerships, each involving a U.S. university, college, community college, or consortium.  Applications are invited from U.S. higher education institutions interested in working with the designated Bangladesh University in 1 of 3 distinct areas: (1) disaster preparedness and mitigation; (2) sound energy policy planning and implementation; and (3) understanding and addressing issues of gender inequity.  The RFA may be downloaded from ALO's website: http://www.aascu.org/alo

Ag Study Abroad Update

Scholarship applications for student travel due November 15.  This year, there are several scholarship opportunities for students interested in traveling abroad. The first round of awards is in November. For a full list of scholarships and for application information, please visit our web site agstudyabroad.iastate.edu

Ag students have large menu of choices for studying abroad.  This year, ag students can choose from 17 travel courses during winter, spring and summer breaks. In addition, students can work abroad in over 10 different countries or enroll for a semester at a number of partner universities on several continents. Where are our students?  Four ISU students are currently enrolled in agricultural exchanges. Ben Harman, Animal Ecology, will spend a year studying at the Royal Agricultural College, England; Patrick Camp, Microbiology, is spending this semester at University College Cork, Ireland; and Violetta Aleman, Ag Business, and Lucas DeBoer, Animal Ecology, are in the middle of their semester at the University of Costa Rica.  For more information about studying abroad, please contact the Agriculture Study Abroad Office, 111 Curtiss Hall, 294-5393, agsao@iastate.edu

Panama Ag Travel Course During Spring Break.  Russell Mullen (Agronomy), Ebby Luvaga (Economics), and Eduarda Becerra (GAP) are taking a group of 25 students to Panama from December 27, 2002, to January 10, 2003.
