U.S. Fulbright Scholar Awards
The 2007-08 application cycle for U.S. Fulbright scholar awards is now open. This year four countries – Eritrea, Mozambique, Rwanda, and Zambia – have an award specifically for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural studies. Some of the sub-fields specifically called for include: soil science, fertility and conservation, horticulture, agribusiness, agricultural marketing, farm operation and management, and the food sciences. In addition, Côte d’Ivoire has an award for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the food sciences, biotechnology, genetically modified organisms, and agricultural conservation. French proficiency is required for this award.

All awards mentioned above are available for a combination of lecturing, faculty training, curriculum development, student thesis advising and scholarly research. Research awards are also available for projects in all disciplines or for HIV/AIDS-related projects. For specific award information and to apply please visit www.cies.org/us_scholars/us_awards/. Complete application materials are due at the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) by August 1, 2006. Please note that U.S. citizenship and a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree are required.

For further information on opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa, please feel free to contact Debra Egan, Assistant Director at CIES (degan@cies.iie.org, 202-686-6230) or Sean Brooks (sbrooks@cies.iie.org, 202-686-4027).
