Foreign Travel Grants for FY 2007-08
Foreign Travel Grant applications for FY 2007-2008 (the original plus
8 copies) are due at noon in the Faculty Senate Office, 103 Laboratory
of Mechanics, on the dates indicated below. Foreign Travel applications
can be found at the following website: http://www.facsen.iastate.edu/Foreigntravel/foreigntravel.htm.
These dates give each applicant two opportunities to apply, though applications
before travel are encouraged.

Agriculture Programs. They may be forwarded directly to ISS from the
departments.

Korean Student Group Visiting ISU
ISU is hosting 19 Korean students and 2 professors from Yeungnam University, South Korea. During their 2-week visit, July 4 – July 16, they will explore and study issues in US agriculture and natural resource management. They will also learn about the culture through participating in different cultural activities. This is the third group to come to ISU as part of a student exchange program between ISU and Yeungnam University. Each university sends a group of students to the other for a program on alternating years. ISU students will travel to YU during summer 2008. Chinese Students Finished Their Study Abroad Program at ISU Successfully
A Chinese delegation made up of 11 Chinese students and 1 professor from Zhejiang University have successfully finished their study abroad program at ISU. During their 2-week visit, April 30 – May 14, they explored and studied issues in the following four areas: sustainable agriculture, agriculture entrepreneurship, biorenewables and agriculture forestry, and food system. They also learned about the culture through participating in different cultural activities as well as interacting extensively with ISU students. This program is a part of a student exchange program between ISU and Zhejiang University. From May 16-June 9, an ISU student group traveled to China to work with the same Chinese students conducting case studies in the 4 areas mentioned above in rural China. The hosts of this Chinese delegation were Dr. Robert Jolly, Dr. Richard Schultz, Dr. Difei Shen, and Denise Bjelland.

Internships
The ISU Agriculture Study Abroad office assists in
the administration of internships for both outgoing ISU students and
incoming students from our partner universities abroad.
2007 Borlaug Summer Interns
Two ISU students are participating in the 2007 Borlaug Intern
Program. Emily Arentson, a senior in Biochemistry/Nutrition, will study
in Bangalore, India from May 27 – July 25, 2007 and Chad Niederhuth.
a senior in Agronomy, will study in Pretoria, South Africa from June
2 – July 29, 2007.

with students? Interested in adding an international component to one
of your courses or creating a new study abroad program for students
but don’t know how to start? We can help! Come and meet with Shelley
Taylor or Jodi Cornell in the Agriculture Study Abroad office to discuss
your ideas. Program applications for Summer 2008 are due October 1.
Now is a great time to start planning for your program for next summer
or beyond. We can assist in the creation and development of new courses,
handle logistics and provide advice for any travel course involving
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences students. For more information
