World Food Prize International Symposium
The World Food Prize International Symposium will be held October 18-l 9, 2001, at the Des Moines Marriott. "Risks to the World Food Supply in the 21 st Century," will provide a strategic overview of the threats to global food security facing the intemational community five years after the World Food Summit and two weeks before the Global Summit in Rome. Ag Study Abroad Update
Recent grants that will allow for increased activity, exchanges and scholarship money for ISU students and faculty in Brazil, the EU, Panama, and Peru:

  • U.S. Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) and Brazilian Ministry of Education's Foundation for the Development of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) funded the "Brazil - U.S. Consortium in Agroecology" to develop U.S. - Brazil joint programs including an agroecology curriculum and student and faculty exchange.
  • U.S. Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) and European Commission Directorate General for Education and Culture (DG EAC) funded the "Experiential Learning for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Food and Society Nexus" to develop U.S. - EC joint programs including faculty and student exchange and interdisciplinary modules in the theme areas of food and society.
  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Higher Education Challenge Grant for a U.S. - Panama "Collaborative Program in Tropical Agriculture and Sustainable Development" to develop course work and student and faculty exchange.
  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Higher Education Challenge Grant for a "Multidisciplinary Experiential Study of International Nutrition in Peru" to develop a month-long nutrition course in Peru, led by FSHN.
