New Name/Services/Staff Assignments
On July 1, 2001, the International Agriculture Programs office was renamed Global Agriculture Programs. As a result of budget cuts, staff and funding in GAP have been reduced, resulting in reorganization and relocation of some staff.

I-HELP Program - 2001
The Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine will host 10 international scholars from 8 countries as part of the 2001 International Higher Education Loan Program (I-HELP). I-HELP is a financing mechanism designed to help the world's brightest young professionals gain international experience and to build leadership skills as they prepare to tackle two of the greatest challenges facing our world today: food security and environmental sustainability. The program is operated by Iowa State University in affiliation with the Global Consortium of Higher Education and Research for Agriculture (GCHERA), a network of over 300 top agricultural universities around the world. Ag Study Abroad Update
Summer Internship Programs.
The summer internship program is underway. Agriculture Study Abroad is hosting 20 international interns this summer. Some interns are working on farms around the state, while others are working with ISU faculty on campus and on ISU farms. For more information on the summer internship program in the College of Agriculture, contact Eduarda Becerra at 294-3972, ebecerra@iastate.edu.

ISU Students Find Valuable Work Experience Abroad this Summer. Twelve ISU students have a variety of internship opportunities with international partners. For example, one student took nutritional measurements of children in rural villages in Ghana, one is examining water quality and causes of erosion in Germany, and one is working on a farm in France. Photo Contest for Returning Travelers Announced for Agriculture Study Abroad Students. The Global Ag Club is sponsoring a photo contest for all returning students on ag study abroad trips. Students can submit up to 3 photos for judging. Exciting prizes will be awarded to the top 3 photographers. All photos will be displayed and judged during the first few weeks of classes in Curtiss Hall. Photographs must be postmarked by Monday, August 6, 2001.
