College Presents Workshop to World Bank
Fifteen World Bank managers will attend a week-long workshop at ISU July 5-11, 1998. The title of the workshop is Can Intensive Agriculture be Sustainable? Linking Policy, Institutions and Technology for Sustainable Intensification of Agricultural Systems. Ramesh Kanwar, (294-9376) is the contact person.

National Leadership for GASEPA Workshops
International Agriculture Programs is providing national leadership for a series of five workshops around the U.S. this summer focusing on the implementation of the NASULGC Board on Agriculture initiative entitled Globalizing Agricultural Science and Education for America (GASEPA). Workshops will bring together faculty, administrators, and stakeholders (farmers, students, agribusinesses, and others) to develop new approaches to globalizing our research, extension, and teaching programs. Workshops will be held in Utah, New York, Minnesota, Georgia, and Texas. A team of seven ISU faculty, staff, and students from several colleges will participate in the workshop in Minneapolis in July.

Dean of Agriculture's International Research Grants Program
ISU College of Agriculture faculty and staff are invited to submit proposals for the 1998-99 Dean of Agriculture's International Research Grants Program. The deadline for submission of proposals is October 16, 1998. The request for applications is available at http://www.ag.iastate.edu/international/faculty/dean_grants.html. NAUU Rector Visits ISU
Dr. Dmytro Melnychuk, Rector, National Agricultural University of Ukraine (NAUU), Kiev, visited ISU June 14-16. During his visit, an MOU was signed between NAUU and ISU in support of NAUU's plans for masters curricula and degree programs. Drs. Doug Kenealy, Wade Miller, Tom Loynachan, John Kluge, Carl Anderson, Steve Jungst, and Lee Fletcher have helped NAUU develop their new graduate programs.

Study Abroad Update
MIAC Study Abroad Program in Mexico. The MidAmerica International Agricultural Consortium (MIAC) will host a study abroad program to Mexico over Semester Break, 1998 (December 30 - January 9, 1999). Participants will become acquainted with the culture, history, agriculture, and university systems of Central Mexico and will visit Mexico City, Taxco, and Veracruz. Students will earn 2 undergraduate credits. The cost is approximately $1,700 per student (includes airfare, surface transportation, hotels, food, and admission fees). Summer Internship Programs Arranged by IAP. Fifteen students from the following countries are participating in summer internship programs with the assistance of IAP: Mexico (4); Ukraine (4); Greece (2); Albania (1); Germany (1); and Thailand (3).
