Global Consortium of Agricultural Universities Conference
Iowa State University will be represented at the inaugural conference of the Global Consortium of Agricultural Universities by a 12-person delegation led by President Martin Jischke. The delegation, composed of faculty, administrators, and graduate students, will present posters and papers, chair sessions, and assist in conference organization. Approximately 135 participants from over 30 different countries will participate. The conference is being organized by ISU and sponsored by World Bank, UNESCO, USAID, Farm Foundation, and the W. W. Kellogg Foundation.

Grant Opportunities

IAP is pleased to announce a call for proposals to be submitted for the 1999-2000 Dean of Agriculture's International Research Grants Program. The guidelines and criteria for proposals can be found at:

The deadline for submission of proposals is October 15, 1999.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Foreign Agricultural Services, International Cooperation and Development Research and Scientific Exchanges Division has announced an RFP for the Scientific Cooperation and Research Program: FY 2000. Calvina Dupre, Agricultural Research Advisor, FAS/USDA, is in charge of the program.

Study Abroad Update
Approximately 90 ISU graduate and undergraduate students from the College of Agriculture participated in study abroad programs during the summer.

Eighteen international students representing Albania, Greece, Mexico, Slovakia, Ireland, Spain, and Guatemala are participating in the Summer Internship Program in Agriculture at ISU.

Did You Know That . . .
Cell phones and satellite phones can be rented for use in other countries? Check out a company called Cellhire at their website--http://www.cellhire.com/. The International Agriculture Programs Office has rented cell phones for use in Ukraine, The Netherlands, Ireland, and Italy and satellite phones for use in rural areas of Mexico and Costa Rica. Cellhire will accept either a personal credit card or an ISU Purchase Order number for payment.
