IAP Begins Global Brown Bag Informational
Series
The MidAmerica International
Agricultural Consortium (MIAC) and Mexico Interests will be the focus
of a brown bag lunch and informational session to be held at noon on
November 12, 1998 in Room 106 Curtiss Hall. This will be the first in
an ongoing series sponsored by International Agriculture Programs.

MidAmerica
International Agricultural Consortium (MIAC)
Relocates
The MidAmerica International
Agricultural Consortium (MIAC) has recently relocated it's offices at
Iowa State. The new address for the MIAC offices will be 111 Curtiss
Hall. MIAC staff includes David Hansen, Executive Director (4-5871),
Administrative Assistant, Shelley Taylor (4-3803) and Vi Hall,
Accountant (4-3803). MIAC's mission is to establish agriculture and
natural resource management program linkages with other nations, with
a primary focus on Mexico. MIAC universities, in addition to Iowa
State, are Kansas State University, the University of Nebraska,
Oklahoma State University, and the University of Missouri. For more

the College of Agriculture have been appointed to serve on the IAP
Faculty Advisory Committee for the 1998-99 school year. The fall
meeting of the committee will be held on November 20, and will focus

Sustainability
Conference
Dr. Cornelia Butler Flora, Director
of the North Central Regional Center for Rural Development,
participated in the Sustainability in Agriculture -- Tensions Between
Ecology, Economics and Social Sciences International Conference in
Stuttgart, Germany, October 28-30. Addressing researchers and
personnel from public and private institutions working in the field
of "sustainability" in general and "sustainable agriculture" in
particular, Dr. Flora gave a presentation entitled "Sustainability in
Agriculture and Rural Communities." This conference was organized by
the Institute of Energy Economics and the Rational Use of Energy
(IER), University of Stuttgart, Germany Institute for Crop Production
and Grassland Research, and the University of Hohenheim,
Germany.
