Students Plant Trees for Arbor Day

Planting Tree Forestry majors Jessica Hepker and Ryan Rieger, front, help plant seven trees on the Iowa State campus for Arbor Day. Joe Colletti, senior associate dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, also helped with the planting.

Animal ecology and forestry students helped plant trees at the southeast corner of Haber Road and University Boulevard on the Iowa State University campus. The students have been learning about North American trees and forestry management issues. Catherine McMullen, professor of natural resource ecology and management, hopes to plant a variety of species on campus for students to visually inspect. The group planted seven trees including an Engelmann spruce, lodgepole pine, Rocky Mountain juniper, ponderosa pine and a Rocky Mountain/water birch.
