Memorial Service for Louis Thompson Oct. 24
College alumnus and former professor and administrator Louis Thompson died July 24 in Ames at the age of 95. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Curtiss Hall Auditorium. Speakers will include Dean Wendy Wintersteen; Owen Newlin, agronomy alum and retired Pioneer Hi-bred International Inc. executive; Duane Acker, animal science alum and former USDA assistant secretary; Roger Mitchell, agronomy alum and retired dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Missouri; Roger Underwood, agricultural business alum and co-founder of Becker-Underwood; and Kenneth Larson, agronomy professor emeritus. Thompson had a distinguished career as a professor of agronomy who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University and a doctorate in agronomy from Iowa State in 1950. He served as head of farm operations in the 1950s and as the College’s associate dean of academic programs from 1958 until his retirement in 1983. [Back to Archived Features] |
