Diversity and Multicultural Programs

GWC - Intern Expectations

  • Work with your mentor in the first week of the program to develop project goals and objectives.
  • Spend a minimum of 40 hours a week on research projects and internship activities.
  • Schedule regular meetings with your mentor at least once every week or more depending on the project and the mentor’s arrangement. Less frequent contact is not advised unless the research/mentor advisor will be away from campus or unless prior arrangements are made.
  • After discussion with a mentor/graduate student, interns will be required to submit a one-page research proposal. This proposal should outline the research to be conducted and expected results of the project.
  • At the end of the program interns will be required to make an oral or poster presentation to present the final results of their research. A final paper is to be submitted to the program director(s) and to the faculty mentor by the conclusion of the program. The length of papers will vary, utilize times new roman (12 font) and have double spaced pages.
  • Interns can expect advice and guidance about undergraduate/graduate school admission, graduate work, career opportunities in research and teaching, and the nature of academic life from the research group and from the George Washington Carver Internship Program.
