Summer Research Internship
George Washington Carver Internship Program
The College of Agriculture conducts an eight week summer internship program for undergraduates in which interns are matched with faculty mentors to participate in research in their area of interest. Students receive a stipend, room and board, and round trip travel to Iowa State University. Interns must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent resident and be a current undergraduate student at an institution other than Iowa State University. A six week program is available for high school students, who must provide their own transportation to ISU.

Graduate Assistantships
From 12 to 14 graduate students from underrepresented groups receive quarter-time assistantships each semester from the experiment station matched with a quarter-time assistant from their department of study. Assistantships cover two years of study for the master’s degree and three years for the doctorate degree. The graduate assistantship permits students to enroll for a maximum of 12 semester credits and qualify for resident tuition rates.

Departments apply for the graduate assistantship for newly recruited minority students and determine the amount of the assistantship in line with other assistantships in the department.

Faculty Research Exchange Visits
A competitive grants program each semester supports faculty visits to or from 1890 land-grant institutions and 1994 land-grant Tribal Colleges. Visits promote undergraduate and graduate recruitment, identify collaborative research areas, provide opportunities for preparing joint proposals and encourage collaborative research.

Applications are due Oct. 15 and Feb. 15.
