Iowa State University was founded in 1858 as an agriculture college. Many of the world’s most innovative ideas in agriculture and life sciences can be traced to Iowa State. Just as the state of Iowa is synonymous with agriculture in every corner of the world, Iowa State in synonymous with excellence in agriculture.

Today’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences continues more than 150 years of excellence as one of the world’s leading institutions of agricultural science, education and extension.

Exploration and Discovery

Revolutionary changes are coming to agriculture and life sciences. Our faculty, students and programs must be able to respond quickly to emerging needs. College of Agriculture and Life Sciences graduates will fill the increasing national demand for leadership in food, agricultural, environmental and social sciences to meet critical local and global needs.

As a leader in areas of great importance to society, including the bioeconomy, genomics, environmental stewardship, food safety, and human health and wellness, we must continue to put science and technology to work. We will explore the frontiers of sciences to make breakthroughs happen. Our faculty and students will make discoveries and translate them into viable technologies, information, services and products.
