Agricultural Business, B.S., 1983
I don’t know if you’ve had anything submitted about the old days of camping out on the steps of Curtiss to sign up for job interviews. My husband, Doug, and I graduated in agricultural business in 1983. I believe we did that the winters of our junior and senior years (’82-’83). I have an article from the Iowa State Daily for the week of March 14, 1983, that has some photos and a complete story. … The article mentions that it was usually 30-40 students, but was sometimes as many as 100.
We both remember gathering sleeping bags, warm coats, hats and gloves, and trudging over to Curtiss with fellow ag students when our friends were going to bed. One time it was so cold that Roger Bruene came in the night to let us in Curtiss to sleep, in line, on the hallway floor. But another night, some other kids found a way to sneak in, which eliminated the chance to have Roger feel sorry for us and open the door early, again!
