Forestry, B.S., 1959
(retired in 2004 as dean of the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech University)

During the fall of 1956, a new scholarship program was begun at ISU (then Iowa State College) on behalf of the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Co. It was named the Eli Lilly Advanced Curriculum Program for students in the College of Agriculture.
Ten students were selected that year, and required to take some advanced courses beyond their standard curricula. Eli Lilly flew the 10 students and some Iowa State faculty advisers to Indianapolis to tour their facilities. It was an excellent program. I don't know if has been continued to this date, but the 10 of us who were the first recipients of their award were very appreciative.
