sites in Iowa and the region, along with a few other sites
that include practical information about wetland policy and
law. This list will be kept as up-to-date as possible.

Association
of State Wetland Managers
- The service's listing includes
items published by the ASWM and others. The second
resource on this site is an extensive page of links to
more than 40 other wetland sites.

Center for
Environmental Information and Statistics (CEIS)
- CEIS is the U.S. Environmental
Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new one-stop
source of data and information on environmental quality,
status, and trends. Environmental profiles are available
for each state, county, and territory in the United
States. You can find information on air quality, drinking
water and surface water quality, and the management of
hazardous waste and toxic chemicals in a county. The
Digital Library of Environmental Quality lets you search
and link to selected EPA reports on environmental quality
and a number of other environmental reports at the
global, national, and state levels. An environmental
atlas offers Enviro-mapper custom maps at the touch of a
button.

Educating
Young People About Water
- This site created by University
of Wisconsin Extension contains information about water
education for young people. Included are abstracts of
over one hundred curricula and resources, a database that
allows users to search these resources by both grade
level and topic area, information for ordering materials,
and links to other related sites.
Environmental Leadership
Institute
- This site is a calendar of
conservation events in Iowa. It is sponsored by John
Deere & Co., Leopold Center for Sustainable
Agriculture, Iowa Conservation Education Council, and
Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. You can list your
organization's events on this calendar to avoid conflicts
with other organizations.

ESCAN
- The ESCAN was developed by the
Iowa State University Department of Journalism and Mass
Communication to be a window to the environment and
environmental news. It includes sections that let you
explore the environment, communicate with others about
environmental issues, and find news about environmental
issues or conferences. Included are pages on
communication, exploring the environment, general
information, and conferences and workshops.

Foundation
EARTH
- Foundation EARTH (Environment,
Agriculture, Research and Technology in Harmony) is a
non-profit organization of farmers, ranchers, consumers
and others dedicated to protecting the environment. The
foundation promotes the adoption of technologically
advanced, environmentally sound and economically viable
farming and ranching practices. This site has,
information on different topics related to agriculture
and the environment, including a section on
"Wetlands,
Watersheds, and Water Quality."

Iowa Conservation
Partners
- This site provides information
about the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Natural
Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Soil and Water
Conservation Districts, and the Division of Soil Science.
The site contains pages describing the roles of each of
these entities at the state and national levels, as well
as links to the national homepages of the USDA and NRCS.
Also included are links to other conservation sites. The
Wetland and Wildlife page contains links to information
about river and wetland projects in Iowa, the wetland
incentive programs, and wetland regulations, as well as
links to on-line versions of the brochures "Better
Wetlands" and "Restoring Iowa's Agricultural
Wetlands."

- The Iowa DNR site contains a
variety of information about the activities of the agency
and its divisions, including a staff directory and
contact information. The site also contains a search
feature so that site visitors can find specific
information more easily.

- The Iowa Department of
Transportation is commited to advocating and delivering
services that support the environment vitality of Iowa
and the Midwest. Wetlands and water resource issues in
the Iowa Department of Transportaion are managed by the
Wetlands Unit of the Roadside Development Section, Office
of Design, Project Development Division.

- This site contains basic
information about Project WET, Water Education for
Teachers, in Iowa including an overview, mission
statement, and contact information. Also included are
links to other water education and water-related
sites.

Iowa
Rivers Project Page
- The Iowa Rivers Project is
operated by the Grant Wood Area Education Agency. It is a
group of middle, junior high, and high school teams
across Iowa who involve their students in an
interdisciplinary study of a local river or stream
(approximately 40 teams particpated in 1997). The purpose
of the website is to share water quality data and other
student work with other schools in the project. It also
provides links to other related websites.

Agricultural Library--Water Quality Information
Center
- This U.S. Department of
Agriculture site offers an extensive assembly of
resources focused on the relationships among agriculture,
water quality, and wetlands. This frequently updated site
includes bibliographies, full-text documents, and access
to over 25 water-related databases.

Wetlands Inventory--U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service

- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service provides this site as a way to access information
on the characteristics, extent, and status of the
nation's wetlands and deepwater habitats. Much of the
information can be downloaded or ordered from this site,
including map data, software and GIS digital maps. Ask
"Dr. Wetland" a question about wetlands issues concerning
you or your community.

Northern Prairie
Wildlife Research Center
- This United States Geological
Survey site disseminates information related to the work
of the Northern Prairie Wildlife Center in Jamestown,
North Dakota, which supports the sound management and
conservation of our mid-continent biological resources,
including wetlands.

Partners
for Fish and Wildlife Program
- The Partners for Fish and
Wildlife Program works voluntarily with private
landowners providing them with financial and technical
assistance to restore all types of degraded wildlife
habitat (including wetlands) on their
property.

The Ramsar
Convention on Wetlands--Ramsar Bureau
- For information on wetlands
efforts worldwide, visit the Ramsar Bureau site in
Switerzerland. This website is a project of the
Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, the
Ramsar Convention, which is a 1971 intergovernmental
treaty that provides the framework for international
cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands
and their resources.

of Wetland Scientists
- The site of this non-profit
orgainization promotes wetland science and the exchange
of information related to wetlands. Society membership
information is provided, as well as information on how to
join. A discussion forum offers the chance to exchange
information with others concerned about wetlands. Other
services provided include a job bank, conference
announcements, a database to help wetland scientists
locate sources of new technologies and tools, a directory
of wetland related academic programs, and educational
aids for professors, teaching assistants and
students.

- This webpage, supported by the
Office of the Chief of Engineers, Regulatory Branch,
Washington, D.C., serves multiple functions, including
providing staff with a source of the latest national
level materials. Materials being published in the Federal
Register will be posted here to facilitate public
access.

Environmental Lab
- The homepage maintained by the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Lab in
Vicksburg, Mississippi, provides a source of the latest
national level materials to download as well as links to
sites of value to their staff and the public. It is also
a means of communicating with the public. Materials being
published in the Federal Register will be posted here to
facilitate public access. The Wetlands Research &
Technology Center site includes a free downloadable
wetlands booklet, titled "The
Young Scientist's Introduction to
Wetlands," which is aimed at
grades K-5.The site also includes links to the Corps'
general webpage, and information on wetlands research
efforts at the Wetlands Research & Technology Center,
as well as information from the Center
for Cultural Site Preservation
Technology.

database provides an opportunity to make sense of the

site. The Wetlands
Information Hotline is available to answer questions by
phone or email.
