Iowa State University has developed two new soybean cultivars, Hi-S1 and Hi-S4, that contain high levels of methionine and cysteine. They are about 10% enriched in seed sulfur. Use of either one of the two lines as animal feed can eliminate the need for added sulfur to feed mixtures. Poultry growers alone spend in the neighborhood of $160,000,000 per year for methionine to supplement soybean meal. These cultivars have been developed by traditional breeding methods and one-pound quantities are available. As seed quantities will be very limited, requests will be filled on a 'first response' basis while seed supplies last. If you would like to receive a one pound unit of either or both varieties please contact Julie Minot for an order form and research agreement. Julie JG Minot |
