Students presented their ideas on how to combat hunger, learn from speakers and ISU faculty engaged in fighting hunger on a global scale, and tour Iowa State facilities. The institute is coordinated by CALS alumna Catherine Swoboda (‘08 agronomy, MS ‘10 crop production and physiology), director of Iowa and Midwest Education Programs for the World Food Prize Foundation. More...Alumni NewsYoung Alum of the MonthDarrin Rahn ALUMNI HOPE TO “BRING HOME THE BACON” WITH BIG BOARPaul Kruse (’80 farm operations) and John Sweeney (’80 animal science,’84 DVM) have teamed up with fellow ISU alumni and Cyclone fans in hopes of bringing home top honors at the Iowa State Fair’s Big Boar competition. They and their teammates Brad Peyton, Don Erickson, Steve Duesenberg and Joe Pritchard were recently featured on local television for their quest to “bring home the bacon.” Dubbed “Fred Hoiboar,” the half-ton Hampshire also is working with his namesake for the benefit of Camp Odayin – a camp for kids with heart disease. Proceeds from sales of their t-shirts benefit Camp Odayin.
