Brady McNeil, animal science, was the convocation speaker. The Ag and Life Sciences Student Council presented awards to the following graduates: Matie Hanson, animal science, for academic achievement; Brittany Jurgemeyer, public service and administration in agriculture, for distinguished service; McNeil for outstanding ambassador of agriculture; Kayla Reiter, agricultural business, for leadership excellence; and Andrew Lauver, agricultural studies, for outstanding senior. Jurgemeyer was also the college’s student marshal at the University Commencement. FARMLAND VALUE REACHES HISTORIC $8,296 STATEWIDE AVERAGEAverage Iowa farmland value is estimated to be $8,296 per acre, an increase of 23.7 percent from 2011, according to results of the Iowa Land Value Survey conducted by ISU economist Mike Duffy. The appointment will be effective Jan. 1. Prior to coming to Michigan State, Poston was director of Washington State University's Cooperative Extension Service and associate dean of agriculture and home economics. Their names were already engraved on the walls of the Gold Star Hall – the war memorial in the Memorial Union – the Gold Star Ceremony offered up a special remembrance of their service. Jan Libbey (’84 fisheries and wildlife biology) and engineering grad Tim Landgraf operate One Step at a Time Gardens near Kanawha. They will receive the award from the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture on January 11. More...ALUMNI HONORED FOR TEACHING AT NATIONAL, LOCAL LEVELSMichael Retallick (PhD ’05 agricultural education), an Iowa State University associate professor of agricultural education and studies, received the New Teacher Award at the Food and Agricultural Sciences Excellence in College and University Awards Program at the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU).
