WIEMERSLAGE NAMED FRIEND OF THE FAMILY FARMER

Teresa Wiemerslage (’96 MS plant pathology), program and communication coordinator for ISU Extension and Outreach in Northeast Iowa, received a Friend of the Family Farmer Award from the Iowa Farmers Union at the organization’s annual meeting Dec. 3.

Wiemerslage coordinates the Northeast Iowa Food and Farm Coalition's Farm to School chapter. She and the coalition are spearheading efforts in school districts across six counties to install school gardens, increase local food purchases by schools for student lunch programs and enroll youth in local food organizations and student clubs. The Iowa Farmers Union is a grassroots organization, founded in 1915, that empowers family farms through education, cooperation and legislation.
