ISU SEED SCIENCE CENTER MEMBERS HONORED BY NATIONAL SEED GROUP

AMES -- Three members of the Seed Science Center at Iowa State University have received the distinguished service award from the American Seed Trade Association.

The distinguished service award is the association's highest honor given to a non-industry individual or group. This was the first time the award has been given to university faculty and staff. The three received the award at ASTA's recent annual meeting in Palm Springs, Calif.

Honored were:

• Manjit Misra, director of the center and professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering, for his leadership, vision and exemplary service to the U.S. seed industry;
• Denis McGee, seed pathologist and professor of plant pathology, for his work on resolving phytosanitary trade issues worldwide; and
• Joseph Cortes, a scientist who coordinates the center's international programs, for his work in reforming seed regulations in regions around the world, resulting in an improved global trade environment.

The Seed Science Center conducts research, outreach and training activities in seed physiology, seed pathology, seed conditioning, seed testing and international seed issues.
