INTERIM ADMINISTRATORS FOR PORK INDUSTRY CENTER NAMED

AMES, Iowa -- James D. McKean, professor of veterinary medicine, has been named interim director of the Iowa Pork Industry Center at Iowa State University. McKean has been associate director. Lauren Christian, C.F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture, was director until his death late in November 1998.

An interim associate director, James Kliebenstein, also has been named. Kliebenstein is a professor of economics.

The center, established in 1994, is responsible for educational, problem-solving and demonstration programs for pork producers and consumers. The colleges of agriculture and veterinary medicine cooperate in programming.

Dennis Marple, head of the animal science department, chairs the committee that will conduct a national search for a new center director. The committee includes ISU faculty members and representatives from Iowa's pork production sector.
