NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR 1999 STATE GOVERNMENT LEADERSHIP HONOR

AMES, Iowa -- The Institute for Public Leadership is seeking nominations for the third annual Common Ground Leadership Award, which recognizes outstanding leaders in Iowa's state government.

The award is presented to those working in Iowa's state government who have made significant contributions to enhancing quality of services delivered to Iowans; increasing governmental effectiveness, efficiency and communication; and exemplifying the spirit of intergovernmental cooperation and achievement.

The Institute for Public Leadership, a non-profit group, provides training for emerging leaders from every level and branch of state government. The institute will hold training sessions on four days this summer and fall.

The first Common Ground Leadership Award was presented in 1997 to Ralph Rosenberg and Linda Hanson. Rosenberg, a former state legislator, founded the Institute for Public Leadership to promote communication, cooperation and quality service in Iowa government. Hanson, was instrumental in gaining the support and resources needed to make the institute a reality.

The 1998 awardee was Gretchen Tegeler, selected for her outstanding record of leadership and collaboration in Iowa's state government. Tegeler was director of the Iowa Department of Management for eight years before becoming Governor Terry Branstad's executive assistant.

Nominations for the 1999 Common Ground award will be accepted through Aug. 20. It will be presented Sept. 21 on the final day of the 1999 Institute for Public Leadership training. For more information and a nomination form, contact Sue Jarnagin at (515) 294-2951.
