ISU MEAT SCIENCE PROGRAM RATED SECOND BEST IN THE NATION
AMES, Iowa -- For the third straight year, Meat & Poultry magazine has ranked Iowa State Universitys meat science program second in the nation.
I.S.U. is well known for its ability to produce top-shelf students with an impressive faculty line-up and industry enhancing research, but its extension program and the variety of workshops and short courses it hosts serve as the model for programs throughout the country, stated the annual ranking of the top 10 meat/poultry programs at U.S. educational institutions.
Iowa States pork program was ranked as the best in the nation and its beef program second, according to an article in the November issue of the trade magazine. It used an informal survey of faculty members from more than 40 colleges and universities with meat and poultry programs. Iowa States overall ranking was second only to Texas A & M University, College Station.
I am pleased that Meat & Poultry recognizes the quality and strength of our meat science program, said Maynard Hogberg, chair of Iowa States animal science department. This program is certainly one of our strengths and does provide an opportunity for students to have a high quality education. To achieve this high recognition it is essential that you have a strong, productive faculty. Our livestock and meat industry in the state have been very supportive of the program. I look forward to strengthening the program even further in the years ahead.
