ISU AG LAW CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS; NEW SEARCH PLANNED

AMES, Iowa - The withdrawal of a candidate has ended a search for a faculty member in agricultural law in the economics department at Iowa State University.

Jon Lauck, an assistant professor at South Dakota State University, withdrew his name this week. He had been scheduled to present a public seminar on campus Sept. 16. Lauck was the only candidate invited to campus for an interview.

"We have decided to end the current search and are discussing plans for a new search," said Arne Hallam, chair of the Department of Economics. "We will review the search process and develop a new job description that ensures a broad pool of potential candidates."

"We remain strongly committed to an agricultural law program that serves students and Iowans well," Hallam said. "We want to hire a person who is committed to maintaining an excellent program of teaching, extension and research and who will guide it into the future."

Neil Harl, a Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture and a nationally prominent leader in agricultural law and economics, is retiring at the end of the year after 39 years at Iowa State.
