THREE IOWA STATE STUDENT CLUBS CAPTURE NATIONAL HONORS
AMES, Iowa -- Three Iowa State University student organizations have received top national honors for their achievements during the past year.
The Agricultural Business Club was named the outstanding student chapter in the nation by the American Agricultural Economics Association. The club has received the award four times in the past seven years. The award was presented at the association's annual meeting in Chicago, Aug. 5-8. The award is based on the quality of educational, fund-raising, professional, public-service and student recruitment activities. With almost 200 members, the Ag Business Club is one of the ISU's largest student groups.
The Ag Business Club also received the association's Creative Club Award for the second straight year. It won the award for its work on a golf tournament fundraiser. Professor of economics Ron Deiter is the club's adviser.
The Agricultural Systems Technology Club won the Equipment Manufacturers Institute Competition for the nation's best preprofessional agricultural mechanization club -- the third year in a row the club has received the award. The award was presented this month at the American Society of Agricultural Engineers' annual meeting in Sacramento, Calif. The award is given to the club with the year's most outstanding record of activities and achievements. AST Club advisers are faculty members Charles Schwab and Tom Brumm.
Another ISU club, the Student Engineering Branch of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, won second place in the Equipment Manufacturers Institute Competition's division for agricultural engineering clubs. The ASAE Engineering Branch advisers are faculty members Carl Anderson and Graeme Quick.
