ACTING HEAD OF ANIMAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT NAMED
AMES, Iowa -- Dennis Marple has decided to step down after nine years as head of Iowa State University's Department of Animal Science.
Marple will join the ranks of the department's faculty and assume teaching and research responsibilities. Before joining ISU, Marple was head of Auburn University's animal and dairy science department.
An internal search for a new department head is planned this spring. Richard Ross, dean of the College of Agriculture, has named M. Douglas Kenealy as acting department head. Kenealy is a University Professor, a title bestowed on senior faculty who have had a significant impact on their department and the university. He has been an animal science faculty member since 1975.
"Dr. Marple has strengthened the Department of Animal Science in many ways," said Ross. "The accomplishments under Dr. Marple's leadership include adding a major addition to Kildee Hall, revitalizing the animal science curriculum, establishing several new research and outreach programs, and observing the department's 100th anniversary."
