ISU RECEIVES GRANT TO HELP STUDENTS STUDY GLOBAL FOOD ISSUES
AMES, Iowa -- Helping students understand global food issues is the focus of a grant awarded to six universities, including Iowa State University.
The U.S. Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) awarded Iowa State University a $200,000 grant to lead a consortium of three American universities and coordinate activities with a similar program in Europe.
Iowa State University will lead the program coordination with the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and the University of California, Davis. The program began Oct. 1 and will last three years.
Students and faculty will participate in electronic learning-communities, study abroad and work exchange programs. The grant money also provides scholarships for travel and language skills education.
The European Community Directorate General for Education and Culture awarded funding to universities in Ireland, Denmark and France. The program includes Dalum Agricultural College, Odense, Denmark; Institut Superieur Agricole de Beauvais (ISAB), Beauvais, France; and University College Cork, Ireland.
