ISU PROFESSOR TO LEAD INTERNATIONAL FOOD SAFETY GROUP
AMES, Iowa - James Dickson, associate professor and chair of the Department of Microbiology at Iowa State University, has been named president of the International Association for Food Protection.
Dickson, a faculty member since 1993, conducts research on the microbiological safety of foods, including the growth and physiological activity of bacteria of public health concern, and on the development of computer models to estimate bacterial growth. He also directs Iowa State's efforts in the Food Safety Consortium, a three-state research program to improve meat safety.
Founded in 1911, the International Association for Food Protection is a nonprofit educational association of food safety professionals. The association has more than 3,000 members in 50 nations. It is dedicated to the education and service of its members and industry personnel. Through the association, members are able to keep informed of the latest scientific, technical and practical developments in food safety and sanitation.
