ONLINE PAPER OUTLINES STARLINK USE AND POTENTIAL IMPACT IN IOWA

AMES, Iowa -- A paper written by Iowa State University faculty members and a staff member from the Iowa attorney general's office provides information on Iowa production of StarLink, a newly commercialized corn hybrid approved for animal feed but not for human consumption.

The paper has been posted on the Web at www.iowagrain.org. Authors are Neil Harl and Roger Ginder, from ISU's economics department; Charles Hurburgh, Iowa Grain Quality Initiative; and Steve Moline of the Iowa Attorney General's office.

The paper provides a chronology of the commercialization of StarLink. It also includes a map showing where StarLink is thought to have been grown in Iowa, and it outlines the possible impacts of StarLink on grain elevators.

The authors said they will be adding information to this paper in weeks to come.
