ISU NAMES DIRECTOR OF INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH
AMES, Iowa -- Ron Simons has been named director of the Institute for Social and Behavioral Research at Iowa State University.
Simons has been a sociology professor at ISU since 1975 and has served as institute associate director since 1990. Simons received his doctoral degree in sociology at Florida State University. His research includes the study of adolescent problems, domestic violence and the link between communities and families.
Carolyn Cutrona was named the associate director of the institute. Cutrona received her clinical psychology doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and has worked in the ISU department of psychology as a professor since 1992.
The director's position opened after Rand Conger stepped down to return to teaching and research. Conger has been director since 1988 when the institute was established.
The institute's purpose is to improve the health of rural and urban people through research and application of results. Research focuses on understanding health risks, reducing those risks and fostering effective health policies and services.
