LAUREN CHRISTIAN SWINE FARM TO HOLD FIELD DAY ON SEPT. 19

ATLANTIC, Iowa -- Swine composting and the future of environmental regulations are a few of the topics to be presented at the Sept. 19 field day at the Lauren Christian Swine Research and Demonstration Farm.

Presenters will be:

• John Mabry, director of the Iowa Pork Industry Center, will discuss the role of the Iowa Pork Industry Center in supporting the Iowa swine industry.
• Jay Harmon, ISU associate professor in ag and biosystems engineering, will give the details on swine composting as an economical option to rendering.
• Mike Larson, ISU animal science research assistant, will share the results of a study at ISU that compares the year-round performance of early weaned pigs in hoop houses versus traditional (power ventilated & slatted floor) nurseries.
• Josh Sobaski, environmental specialist, livestock permitting, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, will discuss what future Environmental Protection Agency rule and regulation changes mean for livestock producers in Iowa.

The event will begin a 4 p.m. and last until 6:30 p.m. A light meal will be provided. The event will be held three miles south of Atlantic on Highway 6.
