GMO ISSUES EXAMINED AT FEB. 15 SEED TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE

AMES, Iowa -- "GMO/Non-GMO Seeds: Policy, Science and Supply" is the theme of the 22nd annual Seed Technology Conference on Feb. 15 at Iowa State University. The conference is organized by ISU's Seed Science Center for professionals working in the seed industry.

Wayne Beck, president of the American Seed Trade Association and vice president for production at Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., will give the keynote address on future seed technology. Other speakers include: Bernard LeBuanec, secretary-general, International Seed Trade Federation; Frank Thorp, Thorp Seed Company; Ron Swanson, Iowa farmer and past president of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board; Daniel Jones, USDA national program leader for biotechnology; and Jitendra Srivastava, senior agriculturist, World Bank.

Preceding the conference will be a Feb. 14 workshop on GMO seed testing. On Feb. 16, another workshop, on developing an accredited quality management system, will be held.
