FINALISTS NAMED IN ISU'S SEARCH FOR AGRONOMY DEPARTMENT HEAD
AMES, Iowa -- Six finalists have been named in the search for a new head of Iowa State University's Department of Agronomy.
The candidates and the dates of their campus visits are:
Joseph Stucki, professor of agronomy, University of Illinois, Aug. 24 and 25; Ronald Turco, professor of agronomy and director, Environmental Sciences and Engineering Institute, Purdue University, Sept. 6 and 7; James Germida, professor and head, Department of Soil Science, University of Saskatchewan, Sept. 12 and 13; Steve Fales, professor and head, Department of Agronomy, Pennsylvania State University, Sept. 18 and 19; Kenneth Cassman, professor and head, Department of Agronomy, University of Nebraska, Sept. 20 and 21; and Donald Sparks, professor and chair, Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Delaware, Sept. 27 and 28.
Tom Loynachan, professor of agronomy, has served as interim head of the agronomy department since the 1998 departure of Ronald Cantrell, who became department head in 1990 and now is director of the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines.
Mike Kelley, forestry department chair, heads the search committee.
He described the candidates as "established, respected individuals"
who offer a broad spectrum of technical expertise and administrative
experience. "We're delighted at the quality of this slate
of candidates," he said.
