ISU STUDENTS TO THAILAND FOR INTERNSHIPS
AMES, Iowa -- Four Iowa State University students left May 21 for Thailand. The four, who are majoring in animal science, will complete a two-month internship with the C.P. Group, the largest multinational and widely diversified group of businesses in Thailand.
The students are Robert Cruise of Wesley, Laurie Hueneke of Bellevue, Beau Carlson of Illinois City, Ill., and Stephanie Veldman of Hollandale, Minn. Their first few days in Thailand were spent near Bangkok, studying the language and culture. The students now are working on large pork production farms with a total of 20,000 sows and an annual production of one million market hogs.
The students will observe major agricultural development projects throughout Thailand with Dr. Chainarong, animal science professor and head of research and development at Kasetsart University. The modern agricultural production projects that will be visited are joint ventures of Kasetsart University, the C.P. Group and the Thailand government.
Paul Brackelsberg, ISU animal science professor, is assisting the students. "These are highly regarded, competitive internships," he says. This is the second time ISU students have been chosen for these internships. Brackelsberg credits David Topel, dean of the ISU College of Agriculture, and Thomas Yu of the C.P. Group, for getting the internship program started.
